About this office

The Tennessee State Senate is the upper chamber of the state legislature, with 33 members elected from single-member districts to four-year terms. Seats are staggered so roughly half are on the ballot every two years. Senators pass state laws, approve the state budget, confirm gubernatorial appointments, and — together with the House — propose constitutional amendments. Candidates must be at least 30 years old, U.S. citizens, Tennessee residents for at least seven years, and district residents for at least one year.

Term length: 4 years.

A Tennessee State Senator is responsible for representing the district in the Tennessee General Assembly, participating in the creation and amendment of state laws, and voting on legislation. He has held leadership roles in various committees, including Chair of the Joint Judiciary and Government, and 2nd Vice-Chairperson of the Judiciary Committee. Rose's career also includes being the President of Rose Construction. His community involvement is extensive, with positions on several boards including the Dyersburg State Foundation and the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home.
