He is running for reelection in 2026.\n\nScott has focused on narcotics prosecution, violent crime, and organized drug trafficking as his primary law enforcement priorities.\n\n## Background and education\nScott is a member of the Lumbee Tribe and a native of Pembroke, North Carolina, where he graduated from Purnell Swett High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University in 1999, a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin\u2013Madison in 2002, and a Master's in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in 2023.\n\n## Career\nAfter completing law school, Scott entered the United States Army as a Judge Advocate and paratrooper with the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. He served 8.5 years on active duty, including a one-year combat deployment to Balad, Iraq, in 2004, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. In 2010, Scott joined the Robeson County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney, concentrating on narcotics and violent crime prosecutions. He also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the Eastern District of North Carolina's Organized Crime and Drug Task Force. He continues to serve as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.\n\nScott serves on the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission, the NC State University Board of Visitors, and the myFutureNC Board of Directors.
