Gerald Fitzpatrick Cannon Sr. ran in the 2026 Democratic primary for Sheriff of Anson County, North Carolina.
Career
Cannon is a 21-year veteran of the Wadesboro Police Department, where he served as a sergeant. In December 2022, the Anson County Democratic Party selected him to serve as sheriff following the death of incumbent Sheriff Landric Reid, but the appointment became the subject of significant legal dispute. County commissioners subsequently reversed the appointment, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals determined that Cannon had not been lawfully appointed to the position.
