{"biography":"## Current office and 2026 campaign\n\nGerald Fitzpatrick Cannon Sr. ran in the 2026 Democratic primary for Sheriff of Anson County, North Carolina.\n\n## Career\n\nCannon is a 21-year veteran of the Wadesboro Police Department, where he served as a sergeant. In December 2022, the Anson County Democratic Party selected him to serve as sheriff following the death of incumbent Sheriff Landric Reid, but the appointment became the subject of significant legal dispute.
