Robert A. Mullinax, Jr. is the Republican candidate for NC District Court, District 36, Seat 04, on the November 3, 2026 ballot, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections' 2026 candidate filing list 4. District 36 (formerly numbered District 25, prior to North Carolina's 2019 judicial-district renumbering) serves Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties 34. He filed for candidacy on December 11, 2025 4.

Mullinax earned a bachelor's degree in history from Wake Forest University and a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1994 3. He practiced law as a partner at Mullinax and Mullinax, PLLC in Newton, North Carolina, before his appointment to the bench 3.

In 2009, then-Governor Bev Perdue (D) appointed Mullinax to the district court in what was then numbered the 25th Judicial District 3. He won election to a full term in 2010, defeating R. Kelsey Williams with 62.64% of the vote, and was re-elected unopposed in 2014 3. Ballotpedia's biographical page has not been updated since his 2014 unopposed re-election and still refers to the seat by its pre-2019 "25th Judicial District" number; the seat is the same one now designated District 36, Seat 04 in current NCSBE filings 34.
