{"biography":"## Current office and 2026 campaign\nChristopher Todd Roper, known as Todd Roper, is a District Court Judge for Judicial District 18, which serves Chatham and Orange counties in North Carolina. He was appointed by Governor Roy Cooper on November 6, 2020, filling a seat created by a vacancy in the district.\n\n## Background and education\nRoper grew up in Snellville, Georgia, and graduated from South Gwinnett High School in 1981. He attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration in 1986. He then attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1989. He was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1989 and to the North Carolina and Alabama bars in 1990.\n\n## Career\nRoper began his legal career in Siler City at the firm Moody, Moody and Williams in 1989, focusing on general practice including personal injury, criminal defense, real estate, estates, and family law. He became a partner in the firm, which later became Moody, Williams Roper and Lee, LLP, and maintained that practice in Chatham and Orange counties for thirty years before his appointment to the bench. During that time he handled thousands of cases across the range of District Court matters including juvenile, civil disputes, criminal defense, child custody, child support, domestic violence, and magistrate appeals.\n\n## Family\nHe is married to Kimberly Dawn Roper.
