Hendrix Michael Colvin

Current office and 2026 campaign

Hendrix Michael Colvin, known as Mike Colvin, is the Democratic incumbent representing North Carolina House of Representatives District 42, which covers parts of Cumberland County including Spring Lake. He assumed office January 1, 2025, after winning the 2024 general election with approximately 75 percent of the vote over Republican opponent Leonard Bryant. He is running for reelection in 2026.

Colvin has stated legislative priorities in education, healthcare, vocational training, and economic development.

Background and education

Colvin is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, born to the late Henry Mitchell Colvin Sr. and Elva "Tina" Colvin, who founded Colvin Funeral Homes in Fayetteville and Lumberton, North Carolina. He is a graduate of Duke University.

Career

Colvin is a licensed funeral service professional with more than 20 years of experience. He has held senior leadership roles at Colvin Funeral Homes and Paye Memorial Funeral Establishment. In parallel, Colvin has worked as a political consultant and senior campaign advisor to elected officials. He previously served as Minority Affairs Chairman for a congressional district, Chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party's 8th Congressional District, and as a political action committee coordinator within the North Carolina NAACP.

Colvin is an active member of Simon Temple AME Zion Church, where he serves on the Steward Board and Lay Council Ministries. He has long-standing involvement with the NAACP in North Carolina.
