Current office and 2026 campaign

Robert Adam Reaves, known as R.A. Reaves, is a Democratic candidate for the Stokes County Board of Commissioners in North Carolina, running in the November 3, 2026 general election. Stokes County is in north-central North Carolina with its county seat in Danbury.

Reaves is running primarily in response to the Stokes County Board of Commissioners' January 2026 vote to approve Project Delta, a large data center project, which passed despite hundreds of residents attending the meeting in opposition and a petition signed by more than 3,200 people against it. He seeks to hold the commission accountable for developer commitments made under Project Delta, impose a moratorium on additional data center proposals, and shift the current 3-2 pro-development majority on the board. He also supports improved funding for education and civics programs in the county.

Background and education

Reaves grew up in a rural county environment. His father's family is from Allegheny County, North Carolina, and his mother's family is from Buckingham County, Virginia. He relocated to Stokes County approximately four years before the 2026 election, seeking a community that preserved its rural character.

Career

Reaves owns and operates a horse farm in northern Stokes County, where he also breeds German Shorthair Pointers. He is a member of the American-Canadian Association of Blacksmiths and the International Horseback Archery Association.
