Joseph Anthony Parfitt, who campaigns as Joe Parfitt, is the Democratic candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives District 52 (Moore and Richmond counties) in the November 3, 2026 general election, challenging Republican incumbent Ben Moss 23. The Democratic primary for the seat was cancelled and Parfitt advanced to the general election unopposed 2. His campaign platform centers on passing a state budget, increasing public-school funding and teacher pay, and expanding access to health care 1.

Background and education

Parfitt was born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania, the eldest son of an Army Special Forces officer and an Army nurse, and attended Northampton Area High School 12. He joined the U.S. Army at 18 and later used his military education benefits to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland (2015) and a graduate degree from National Defense University (2017) 12.

Career

Parfitt served in the U.S. Army from 1999 to 2020 as an airborne infantryman and, later, a Civil Affairs Operator stationed at Fort Bragg, with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and postings in U.S. embassies during the Global War on Terror, according to his campaign 12. After retiring from the Army in 2020, he worked in finance and construction before becoming a teacher in Moore County Schools, where his campaign says his three children have also attended 1. He lives in Southern Pines 1.
