Joseph Kevin Jones, who goes by Kevin Jones, is the incumbent Sheriff of Camden County, North Carolina, and a Republican. He was first elected sheriff in the November 2018 general election, after winning a close May 2018 Republican primary to succeed retiring Sheriff Tony Perry, and was re-elected in 2022 123. As of December 2025, Jones has filed for re-election in the 2026 election cycle 4.
Jones grew up as the son of a sheriff, and his interest in law enforcement began at an early age. He began his law enforcement career with the Elizabeth City Police Department in 1990. Over his career Jones has obtained an extensive array of certifications, including Basic Law Enforcement Training (2004), Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate (2010), Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate (2013), Specialized Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor (2015), Hostage and Crisis Negotiator (2015), and a Criminal Investigation Certificate Program Certification (2017) 5.
Jones has two brothers who also pursued law enforcement careers: Kelly Jones, a United States Marshal, and Keith Jones, who retired as a sergeant from the Nags Head Police Department.
