Charles Noble Hubbard

Chuck Hubbard is the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 election. He secured the Democratic nomination by winning the March 3, 2026 primary with 56.7% of the vote (25,546 votes) over Kyah Creekmore ². In the 2024 general election he was the Democratic challenger to incumbent Rep. Virginia Foxx, receiving 40.5% of the vote ².

Born in Bryson City, North Carolina, Hubbard earned a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in 1985 ². He began his journalism career at age eight in the print shop of the Wilkes Journal‑Patriot, a newspaper founded by his grandfather, and by sixteen was covering news for the paper while still a student at Wilkes Central High. After graduating from Wofford he worked full‑time as a reporter and, over more than forty years, became a well‑known local journalist covering breaking news throughout the region ¹⁴.

Beyond journalism, Hubbard has been active in community service. He has served on the boards of the Wilkes Recovery Revolution, the Wilkes Child Abuse Prevention Team, and the Wilkes Prison Ministry ²¹⁴. He is a lifelong Presbyterian and member of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. He lives in Wilkesboro with his wife, Shari, a former North Carolina State Trooper, and they have three daughters and two grandchildren ¹⁴.

Hubbard’s campaign platform emphasizes support for working families and small businesses, investment in public education, and expanding access to affordable health care, including protecting Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and reproductive health services ¹². He describes his approach to Congress as one that “rejects political theater” and focuses on practical solutions for North Carolinians.

If elected, Hubbard would join the U.S. House, where he would be responsible for drafting and voting on federal legislation, serving on committees, and representing the interests of constituents across a district that spans from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Piedmont Triad, including cities such as Greensboro, Boone, and Wilkesboro ¹³.
