Charles Edward George, known publicly as Ed George, is the Libertarian Party candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 34 in the 2026 general election. District 34 covers part of Wake County. George previously ran for this same seat in 2024 and lost to Democratic incumbent Tim Longest.

George advocates a libertarian approach to governance. His stated positions include abolishing Certificate of Need requirements in healthcare, implementing school choice with per-pupil funding, eliminating business licensing fees, opposing minimum wage increases, supporting full marijuana legalization, and opposing gun regulations on the basis of property rights and Second Amendment protections.

Background and education

George is 62 years old (as of the 2024 election) and has lived in North Carolina for approximately 27 years, with roughly 10 years in District 34. He worked his way through engineering college.

Career

George works as a biotech industry consultant for Free Market Ventures, Inc. He has a background in the construction and management of major regional manufacturing facilities. He serves on the advisory board of BTEC (NC State University's Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center) and identifies as a small business owner.
