Current office and 2026 campaign
Amy Woodard Kemp ran for the Guilford County Board of Commissioners at-large seat in the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary, competing against Rev. Toby Hedgepeth and Rev. Greg Drumwright for the single available at-large nomination.
Kemp named fully funded public schools as her top priority, calling schools "stability." She also campaigned on attainable housing and community safety. She was endorsed by former U.S. Congresswoman Kathy Manning.
Background and education
Kemp grew up in Raleigh and earned a degree in communications and political science from Salem College in Winston-Salem. She has lived in Guilford County for more than 25 years.
Career
Kemp worked for the NC Association of Realtors as an events manager, diversity committee liaison, and property management division liaison. She also served as a tutor at Jones Elementary School in Guilford County Schools.
Kemp served as a Guardian ad Litem for children in foster care and participated on the Guilford County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
