She was endorsed by former U.S. Congresswoman Kathy Manning.\n\n## Background and education\nKemp grew up in Raleigh and earned a degree in communications and political science from Salem College in Winston-Salem. She has lived in Guilford County for more than 25 years.\n\n## Career\nKemp worked for the NC Association of Realtors as an events manager, diversity committee liaison, and property management division liaison.
