Ian William Patrick

Ian William Patrick is the incumbent Cabarrus County Commissioner, appointed by the Cabarrus County Republican Party in December 2025 and subsequently elected Vice‑Chair of the Board. He is running as a Republican candidate for a full term on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners in the March 2026 primary ¹²⁷.

Patrick earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2007 and a professional Bachelor of Architecture in 2009 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and is a licensed architect in both North and South Carolina ¹²⁷. Since 2015 he and his wife, Erin, have owned and operated Biloba Architecture, an architectural firm employing nine staff members. His professional background includes service on the American Institute of Architects’ Legislative Review Committee, certification as a disaster relief inspector for NC SEER, and LEED certification in building design and construction.

His public‑service career began with election to the Harrisburg Town Council in November 2019, where he was re‑elected for a second term that ran through 2025 ²⁷. While on the council he chaired the Board of Adjustment, served as an alternate representative for the Centralina Regional Council, and helped add a full division to the Harrisburg Sheriff’s Office. Under his leadership the town reduced residential development approvals by 96%, attracted tens of millions of dollars in commercial investment, lowered property taxes, and secured grant funding that covered up to 75 % of the town’s budget for “shovel‑ready” projects ⁹¹⁰.

In addition to his elected roles, Patrick serves on the board of the Construction Professionals Network (CPN) and is Chair of its nonprofit arm, the Construction Professionals Network Institute (CPNI), which provides free workshops and economic‑development assistance to struggling rural North Carolina towns ¹¹². He is also a member of the Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce, the North Carolina Economic Development Association, and the Society of College and University Planners.

Patrick was recognized in 2022 with the Charlotte Business Journal’s prestigious 40 Under 40 award for his business success and community involvement ⁷¹². He also received a CPN Service Award for his nonprofit work.

As a commissioner, Patrick says Cabarrus County faces a projected $13.7 million budget shortfall and stresses the need for fiscal responsibility, efficient government spending, and strategic long‑term planning for schools and infrastructure. He emphasizes his architectural expertise to reduce construction waste, accelerate permitting for commercial development, and protect natural resources while keeping taxes low ¹⁹⁷.
