Bob Ramsey, a former state representative, filed as a Republican for Blount County Commission District 5, Seat A 12. He is not currently a county commissioner; the seat opened because incumbent Jared Anderson chose to run for county mayor 2. Ramsey drew no primary or general-election opponent 23.

Background and education

Ramsey was born March 13, 1947, and graduated from Maryville High School in 1965 45. He holds a B.S. in biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis 45.

Career

Ramsey worked as a dentist before retiring from that profession 5.

Office history

Ramsey served on the Blount County Commission for District 5 from 1990 to 2008, including nine years as chairman, and as interim county executive (1992) and acting county mayor (2006) 5. He then represented Tennessee House District 20 as a Republican from January 2009 to January 2023, winning re-election in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020, before losing renomination to Bryan Richey in the August 2022 primary 4.

Legislative record and accomplishments

Ramsey was named an Outstanding Representative by the Tennessee County Officials Association (2012) and received the Tennessee Press Association's Open Government Award (2016). He served on the Blount County Board of Health, Regional Solid Waste Authority, Agricultural Extension Committee, Community Action Agency, and Regional Planning Commission, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Maryville 4.
