Brent Peter Goddard is a Republican candidate for the Iredell County Board of Commissioners in the 2026 election. He lives in Mooresville, NC. His platform centers on strategic and controlled growth with a focus on infrastructure, schools, and public safety, and on preserving the county's agricultural heritage.
Goddard has identified the loss of Iredell County's farming heritage and uncontrolled growth as the county's two most pressing issues. He advocates for a strategic growth plan that includes affordable housing, continued funding for the sheriff's department, veteran support programs, workforce development, and attracting new industry to the county.
Background and education
Goddard is a 100% disabled veteran who served more than 34 years in the United States Navy and Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel in 2012. He received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps after graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1985. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Boston University and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Career
During his military career, Goddard commanded at every level of leadership. He served as a battalion commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. After retiring from the military in 2012, Goddard joined Ingersoll Rand, serving as Global Logistics Director and Vice President of Supply Chain for Trane Latin America. He retired from Ingersoll Rand in 2020. He is also a farmer with direct knowledge of Iredell County's agricultural community.
Goddard serves on the board of the Top of the Lake Rotary Club, as a Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy, as a board member of Child Advocacy for Iredell and Alexander Counties, and as a Guardian Ad Litem for Iredell County.
Family
Goddard lives in Mooresville with his wife, Kelly. They have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
