Background and education

Wilson's ties to Fayette County education date to 1951, when he began school at Wirt Elementary School in Oakland, and he graduated from Fayette County Training School in 1963 1.

Career

Wilson began his teaching career at William Penn Ware High School and, over his career in Fayette County schools, held positions as teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent 1. He served as president of the Fayette County Education Association and founded the local chapter of the American Federation of Teachers 1. He remains active with the Bernard Community Center, Fayette County Citizens for Progress, the E-911 Board, the NAACP, and the Memphis Health Center (Rossville) Dewitt Center 1.

Wilson served 28 years on the Fayette County Commission before his tenure on the Board of Education 1.
