He filed to run for re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election 2.

Career

Before serving as Clerk of Superior Court, Goodwin was sheriff of Chowan County for much of a 30-year law enforcement career. The College of The Albemarle Foundation established the Dwayne Goodwin Endowed Scholarship in his name in 2020, describing him as the county's "recently retired sheriff" 3.
