Judge Jayne Chandler is a life-long Memphian. She is the daughter of the late Horace Chandler and Dr. Sarah Chandler. She graduated from Hamilton High School, Tennessee State University and The Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. Judge Chandler has done additional studies at Lake Forest College, Howard University and Memphis State University.
Due to the illness of her mother, Judge Chandler returned to Memphis and accepted a position as an Assistant City Prosecutor in 1994. In October of 1995, she was elected to serve as Municipal Court Judge, Division 3. A position she has held for 27 years. Judge Chandler currently serves as Administrative Judge for the Municipal Courts. Judge Chandler is a member of the American Bar Association; the National Bar Association and the Ben F. Jones chapter of the National Bar Association; the National Association of Women Judges; the Texas Bar Association; the Tennessee Bar Association; the Memphis Bar Association; Memphis Bar Association Fellow; an honorary member of J.U.G.S. International; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and Girlfriends, Inc. She is also a 1998 Leadership Memphis graduate. Judge Chandler is licensed to practice law in the states of Texas and Tennessee. Judge Chandler grew up in the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church. She currently attends St. Andrew AME Church with her family. Judge Chandler is married to Daryl, an aquaponics farmer and they have a daughter, Lia who holds a drone and private pilot license.
Judge Chandler has compiled a booklet entitled “TRAFFIC COP” (Teenagers Resolved to Avoid Foolishness and Fatalities in Cars Caring Observant Pupils), also an activity book, “If Judge Jayne can succeed, then you can too!’
Judge Chandler often referred to as “The Peoples’ Judge” has been the recipient of many honors and awards during her distinguished legal career for her social and civic activism. Judge Chandler also serves as a motivational speaker. In her free time she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her friends and family.
