Victoria "Vickie" Burgess Sawyer is the incumbent Republican state senator for North Carolina’s 37th Senate district, which includes Iredell and Mecklenburg counties, and she is on the ballot for re‑election in the November 3, 2026 general election 28.

Sawyer earned a bachelor’s degree in special education and teaching from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1997, graduating from Parkland High School in Winston‑Salem beforehand 29. She and her husband, Brett, have owned and operated Sawyer Insurance & Financial Services in Mooresville since 2002, where she works as a licensed insurance agent 29.

Her political career began with local party work, serving as treasurer of the Iredell County Republican Party and as a member of the Iredell County Planning Board. She also sits on the board of trustees for Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and is a board member of the Crosby Scholars of Iredell County, reflecting deep community involvement 29.

Sawyer was first appointed to the North Carolina Senate in August 2018 to fill the vacancy in District 44, served there until January 2019, and later was appointed to represent District 34 before being elected to the newly drawn District 37, where she has served since 2023 89. In the Senate she has held several leadership positions, most notably chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and co‑chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee, and she serves on the Finance, Commerce & Insurance, Rules and Operations, and Appropriations/Base Budget committees 28. She is also active in a range of joint caucuses and task forces, including the Joint Women’s Caucus (co‑chair) and the Republican Women’s Caucus (chair) 8.

Sawyer’s legislative focus includes transportation infrastructure, insurance regulation, and fiscal policy, as reflected in her committee assignments and sponsored bills. She has been recognized within the National Council of Insurance Legislators, serving as chair of its Special Committee on Natural Disaster Recovery and as vice‑chair of the Property‑Casualty Insurance Committee 8.

Personal details: Sawyer is married to Brett, and they have two daughters, Sydney and Braedy. She remains a resident of Mooresville, North Carolina 98.
