Gregory Brooks Drumwright

Office history

Gregory Brooks Drumwright is a Democratic candidate for the Guilford County Board of Commissioners At‑Large in the 2026 election. The Board of Commissioners serves as the chief governing body for Guilford County, setting policy, approving the budget, overseeing county services such as public safety, health, and infrastructure, and representing the interests of all county residents. Drumwright is campaigning on a platform that includes safe schools and communities, increased teacher pay, rural health‑care initiatives, expanded mental‑health support, and a community‑wide “Let’s Grow Guilford Together” vision [7].

Drumwright earned a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master of Divinity from Wake Forest University, and he is currently pursuing doctoral studies [12]. He serves as senior pastor of The Citadel Church & Campus Ministries in Greensboro, where he has built a congregation that attracts large millennial audiences. In addition to his pastoral duties, he is a professor of Public Speaking and Human Communication and the Senior Principal Consultant for Leadership Enhancement and Academic Development (L.E.A.D.) [12].

His public‑service record includes appointment by Governor Roy Cooper to the North Carolina Courts Commission as the sole at‑large, non‑lawyer member, a role in which he has contributed to criminal‑justice reform and under‑age vaping legislation [12]. He was also honored with the Old North State Award for more than two decades of community service, and he has received numerous recognitions such as the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights’ Frank R. Parker Award and Black Business Ink’s Top 40 Under 40 list [12].

Drumwright is a nationally recognized activist. He founded the Justice 4 the Next Generation movement, has appeared on CNN, ABC, FOX, NBC, and in publications including Forbes, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Bloomberg. In 2022 he was featured in the Netflix documentary “Civil” for his work with attorney Ben Crump supporting the family of George Floyd during the trial [7][12]. He has also organized community initiatives such as “Kicks 4 Our Kids,” which donated over 500 pairs of shoes to underserved students in Guilford County [7].

In 2020 Drumwright was arrested during a Halloween‑day march in Graham, leading to felony obstruction‑of‑justice and assault‑on‑officer charges; both felonies were later dismissed, with one dismissed by the court and the other resulting in a grand jury “no true bill” [11]. The incident underscores his long‑standing involvement in civil‑rights protests.

Previously, Drumwright ran for the Guilford County Board of Education’s District 2 seat in 2018, demonstrating his ongoing interest in local governance [8]. His current campaign emphasizes collaborative, equity‑focused leadership to address education, public safety, health, and economic development across Guilford County.
