{"biography":"Steven Henry \"Steve\" Jarvis is the incumbent Republican State Senator for North Carolina\u2019s 30th Senate District and is on the ballot for re\u2011election in the November\u202f3,\u202f2026 general election.  The North Carolina Constitution requires a senator to be at least 25 years old, a qualified voter, and to have resided in the state for two years and in the district for one year before election\u202f[3].  Jarvis meets those qualifications, having been born April\u202f22,\u202f1968 in Anderson, Indiana\u202f[8] and residing in Davidson County, North Carolina.\n\nJarvis earned his early education at Davidson County Community College and later completed the UNC School of Government\u2019s Advance Leadership Corps program\u202f[10][18].  He is married to Wendy and they have two children\u202f[10].  Professionally, he has owned and operated Jarvis Construction since 1989, serving as its president and building a reputation in residential and light\u2011commercial construction\u202f[18][10].\n\nHis political career began with service as a Davidson County Commissioner from 2012 to 2021\u202f[10][17].  He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives for District\u202f80, serving from 2019 to 2021\u202f[8][19].  In 2020 he won election to the State Senate, first representing the 29th District (2021\u20112023) and, after redistricting, the 30th District (2023\u2011present)\u202f[8][19][1].  He has been re\u2011elected in 2022 and again advanced from the Republican primary in March\u202f2026, defeating Eddie Gallimore with 75.6% of the vote\u202f[1].\n\nDuring his Senate tenure Jarvis has served on several key committees.  In the 2025\u20112026 session he sits on the Agriculture, Energy, and Environment Committee; Appropriations on General Government and Information Technology Committee; Appropriations/Base Budget Committee; Commerce and Insurance Committee; Senate Transportation Committee; and Senate State and Local Government Committee\u202f[1].  He chaired the Appropriations on General Government and Information Technology Committee in 2023\u20112024 and the Senate State and Local Government Committee\u202f[1].  Earlier assignments included the Health Care Committee, Senate Appropriations on Health and Human Services, and the Banking Committee\u202f[1][19].\n\nJarvis\u2019s legislative record includes sponsoring Senate Bill\u202f88, which would change the deadline for counting mail\u2011in absentee ballots\u202f[17].  He has advocated for controlled government spending, lower taxes, a balanced budget, and reduced regulations on small businesses\u202f[17].  On policy issues he opposes abortion and gun\u2011control measures, supports community\u2011college and vocational training, and backs term limits for members of Congress\u202f[17].  He also serves on numerous advisory boards, including the 911 Advisory Board and the NCACC Agricultural Steering Committee\u202f[10].\n\nIn the 2026 race Jarvis faces Democratic challenger Pamela D.\u202fMcAfee.  The Senate seat carries a salary of $13,951 per year plus a $104 per\u2011day per diem\u202f[3].
