Tracy Thomas Story is a Halifax County native who has announced his candidacy for Halifax County Sheriff as an unaffiliated (UNA) candidate in the 2026 general election on November 3, 2026. The sheriff’s office is the chief law‑enforcement agency for the county, overseeing patrol duties, jail operations, court security and civil process service. Story is positioning his extensive business and community‑service background as preparation for that role.

Story earned a General Education Development (GED) credential and entered the workforce at a young age, first working at Colony Tire in Roanoke Rapids. By age 20 he was managing a multi‑million‑dollar location, and later founded Discount Automotive and Tire, a business he describes as a community staple.
