Eugene "Gene" Evans Sr. is the incumbent Cheatham County commissioner for District 5, which covers the Pegram area, and one of two Republican nominees on the August 6, 2026 county-general ballot for the district's two seats, alongside fellow Republican Jody Vann and incumbent independent Diana Pike Lovell. District 5 is a "Vote For TWO" contest 12.
Office history
Before his county service, Evans served the town of Pegram as an alderman for two terms, as vice mayor, and by appointment as mayor. He began serving as the 5th District county commissioner by appointment and was elected to the office in 2014. As commissioner he has served on the Industrial Board, Agriculture Board, Beer Board, and the Capital Improvements, Road and Bridge, and Emergency Services committees 34.
Documented disputes and controversies
In 2018, Evans was charged with simple assault following a September 29 altercation with an 18-year-old Pegram resident, Zack Cantrell, who had come to Evans's home over a missing dog. Both Evans and Cantrell were charged and each pleaded not guilty at an October 10 hearing. According to the incident report cited in local coverage, officers described Evans as "extremely intoxicated" at the scene 5.
