Current office and 2026 campaign

Kristy Denise Moore ran for election to the Durham Public Schools Board of Education District 4 in the March 3, 2026 primary. She lost to Xavier Cason, who received 50.8 percent of the vote.

Moore emphasized fiscal oversight of the school district's budget, centering students amid state and federal funding uncertainty, and applying her policy and organizing experience to guide the board through complex challenges.

Career

Moore is a former DPS teacher and former president of the Durham Association of Educators. She also served as vice president of the NC Association of Educators. She worked as a staffing coordinator at Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and currently serves as Program Manager of National Programs at the Hunt Institute, where she plans large-scale events and builds partnerships across the education sector. She was appointed to the state's DRIVE task force to help increase teacher diversity in North Carolina public schools.

Family

Moore is the parent of a DPS graduate and a current DPS student.
