Status update. Nasif Rashad Majeed, the incumbent, lost the Democratic primary for NC House District 99 to Veleria Levy, 1,896 votes to 4,966 (26.2% to 68.6%, Mecklenburg County, March 3, 2026); Levy advances unopposed to the November 3, 2026 general election ².

Majeed has represented North Carolina House District 99 (Mecklenburg County) since 2019, having first been elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2020, 2022, and 2024 ¹.

Background and education

Majeed earned an A.A. in restaurant management from the University of Florida in 1979, a B.S. in business administration from North Carolina A&T State University in 1968, and an M.S. in agricultural education (specializing in animal science), also from North Carolina A&T State University, in 1979 ¹. He served five years in the U.S. Air Force as a captain and B-52 bomber aircraft commander ¹.

Career

Majeed's professional background includes work as a pilot for Piedmont Airlines (later US Airways), ownership of a Burger King franchise, 14 years as a clinical chaplain for the North Carolina Department of Corrections, managing partner of Metro-Meck Land Development Company, and custom jewelry making ¹. He served eight years on the Charlotte City Council before his election to the state legislature ¹.

Majeed was first elected to NC House District 99 in 2018 and was re-elected in 2020, 2022, and 2024 ¹.
