Christopher James Chadwick, who goes by Chris Chadwick, is the Republican chairman of the Carteret County Board of Commissioners for District 6, which covers the Down East communities, North River, South River, and part of Beaufort 1. He filed for re-election to the seat for the 2026 election cycle 2 and won the March 3, 2026 Republican primary unopposed for the general 3.
Background and education
Chadwick was born and raised in Gloucester, North Carolina, in Carteret County 4.
Career
Chadwick and his family operate several Down East businesses, including Chadwick Tire Company and Retail Square, both in Otway, and the Harkers Island RV Resort on Harkers Island; the family's businesses have operated in the area for more than 29 years 4. He was appointed to the Carteret County Board of Commissioners in June 2020 to fill the District 6 seat after the death of Commissioner Jonathan Robinson, and was seated to serve on an interim basis 4. He has since been elected to the seat and serves as board chairman 1. He also sits on the Carteret County ABC Board, the Partnership for Children, the Carteret County Transportation Committee, and the Harbor Authority 1.
Family
Chadwick is married to Kathryn Smith Chadwick, and the couple have two children, William and Larrington, who attend East Carteret High School 4.
