Kevin Wade Powell, a Republican, is the nominee for Alexander County Register of Deeds on the November 3, 2026 general-election ballot, after winning the March 3, 2026 Republican primary over incumbent Scott Hines, 3,283 votes (67.89%) to 1,553 votes (32.11%). This is his first run for public office 12.
Background and education
Powell, 68, is a graduate of Alexander Central High School and has lived in Alexander County since 1962, having moved from Delaware City, Delaware 1.
Career
Powell has owned and operated Powell Septic Tank Service for 22 years. He and his wife, Lisa, are co-owners of Apple City Broadcasting, which operates local radio stations WACB and WTLK in the Taylorsville area 1.
After volunteering with Finding Hope Global Ministries, a $1.5 million 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Powell was elected chairman of its board of directors and served in that role for eight years before recently stepping down. He and Lisa are members of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, where Powell has served on the Budget & Finance Committee and the Building & Grounds Committee, and he currently serves on the executive committee of the Alexander County Republican Party 1.
