Vivek Ramaswamy is the 2026 Republican nominee for Governor of Ohio. He announced his campaign on February 24, 2025, receiving Donald Trump's endorsement the same day, and won the Republican primary on May 5, 2026, with more than 80% of the vote against Heather Hill and Casey Putsch 123. He faces Democratic nominee Amy Acton, Ohio's former state health director during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the November 2026 general election, which had not yet been decided as of this writing 1. The Ohio campaign followed his brief tenure, alongside Elon Musk, as co-leader of the incoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE); Ramaswamy departed that role on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025, saying that pursuing the governor's race and running DOGE were "not compatible" 4.
His only prior appearance on a Tennessee ballot was as a 2024 Republican presidential candidate. He entered as the youngest candidate in the Republican field, running on downsizing the federal government and eliminating what he called "woke" ideology from public and corporate life 5. Vivek Ganapathy Ramaswamy was born August 9, 1985, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Tamil parents who had immigrated from Kerala, India; his father worked as an engineer at General Electric and his mother as a geriatric psychiatrist 8. Career
Ramaswamy founded the biopharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences in 2014 and served as its CEO until January 2021 8. He co-founded Strive Asset Management, an anti-ESG index-fund firm, in early 2022 and resigned in February 2023 8.
