Hawk is a Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives representing the 5th district, which includes Unicoi County and parts of Greene County. He has served since January 2003. In 2020, he ran for Tennessee's 1st Congressional District, placing seventh with approximately five percent of the vote.\n\n## Background and education\nHawk was born on June 21, 1968. He attended Tusculum University and East Tennessee State University, graduating with honors in marketing. He later attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government program in 2006.\n\n## Career\nBefore entering politics, Hawk worked as a haberdasher.
