Kyle N. Smith is the sitting Tipton County Constable for District 9, covering the Brighton area, and is running again in the August 6, 2026 county general election as an Independent.1 Smith has held the District 9 constable seat since at least 2019, when he won election with 253 votes, and has continued to serve as constable in addition to being elected a Brighton alderman in November 2024.123

Career

In June 2025, Smith was charged with child abuse after a child in his care told a school resource officer that Smith had punched them in the stomach.3 According to a criminal complaint, Smith acknowledged the physical contact during a June 12, 2025 court proceeding in Lauderdale County, describing it as "popping the victim in the chest."3 He was arrested June 18, 2025, released on bond, and was scheduled to appear in court July 1, 2025; no further public reporting on the case's resolution was found.3
