Current office and 2026 campaign

Rebecca Keefauver Alexander is the Republican state representative for Tennessee House District 7, covering part of Washington County, including all of Jonesborough and part of Johnson City 1. She is running for re-election in 2026, with the Republican primary scheduled for August 6, 2026, and the general election on November 3, 2026 12. She first won the seat in 2020, defeating then-incumbent Matthew Hill in the Republican primary, and won a third term in 2024, defeating Washington County Democratic Party Chair Sylvain Bruni 13.

Background and education

Alexander comes from six generations of Washington County dairy farmers and grew up working on the family farm 4. She graduated from Daniel Boone High School and Milligan College, and later earned a master's degree in education, with an emphasis in storytelling, from East Tennessee State University 4.

Career

Alexander worked as a copywriter for Philips Consumer Electronics Company (Magnavox), later being promoted to national marketing manager and then national sales manager for accessories, a role in which she called on buyers for retailers including Sears, Target, Circuit City, Walmart, Sam's Club and Radio Shack 4. She has also worked as a professional storyteller and helps run the family business, Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home 4. In the legislature, she serves on the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, the Children & Family Affairs Subcommittee, the Judiciary Committee and the Transportation Committee, and is treasurer of the Tennessee House Republican Caucus 5.

Alexander volunteers at a food pantry and teaches Sunday school and women's Bible study at Boones Creek Christian Church, and has been involved with the Jonesborough Storytelling Guild 4.
