She first won the seat in 2020, defeating then-incumbent Matthew Hill in the Republican primary, and won a third term in 2024, defeating Washington County Democratic Party Chair Sylvain Bruni [1][3].\n\n## Background and education\nAlexander comes from six generations of Washington County dairy farmers and grew up working on the family farm [4]. She graduated from Daniel Boone High School and Milligan College, and later earned a master's degree in education, with an emphasis in storytelling, from East Tennessee State University [4].\n\n## Career\nAlexander worked as a copywriter for Philips Consumer Electronics Company (Magnavox), later being promoted to national marketing manager and then national sales manager for accessories, a role in which she called on buyers for retailers including Sears, Target, Circuit City, Walmart, Sam's Club and Radio Shack [4]. She has also worked as a professional storyteller and helps run the family business, Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home [4].
