John Edwin Giles is the incumbent Republican Blount County commissioner for District 4, Seat C, running for a second term in 2026 12. He faced Robby Kirkland in the May 5, 2026 Republican primary; the winner faces Democrat Allie Sasser in the Aug. 6, 2026 general election 53.

Background and education

Per his candidate statement to The Daily Times' "Hats in the Ring" feature, Giles has lived in Blount County over 60 years, is a Maryville High School graduate, and holds a B.S. in education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville 7.

Giles was first elected to District 4, Seat C in 2022 and is currently serving. In September 2025 fellow commissioners elected him parliamentarian, 13-0-1, succeeding Mike Akard 6. He sits on the Blount 250 Committee, Commission Rules Committee, Commission Workshop Committee, Education Committee, and the Planning Commission 4.
