Jeffrey C Mcneely

Jeffrey C. McNeely is the incumbent Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for District 84 and is seeking re‑election in the November 3, 2026 general election for that seat ¹¹³. The North Carolina House is the lower chamber of the state legislature, with members serving two‑year terms.

McNeely was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on June 12, 1964, and earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from North Carolina State University in 1986 ¹³¹⁴. He graduated from West Iredell High School in 1982 ¹⁴.

Before entering state politics, McNeely inherited and has operated his family’s feed‑milling business, G&M Milling Company, since 1986, making him a small‑business owner ¹¹⁵. He also served 16 years on the Iredell County Planning Board and held a seat as a county commissioner ¹⁴¹³.

McNeely was appointed to the North Carolina House on July 5, 2019, to fill the vacancy left by Rep. Rena Turner ¹³¹. Since then he has been re‑elected in 2020, 2022, and 2024, most recently winning 68.2% of the vote in the 2024 general election ¹¹³. In the 2024 race he defeated Democratic challenger Chris Gilbert and independent write‑in Lisa Mozer ¹.

During his legislative tenure McNeely has held several leadership positions. He currently chairs the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations – Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources Committee, and the Environment Committee ¹¹³. In prior sessions he also chaired the Agriculture Committee and served on Education – K‑12, Judiciary IV, and other appropriations subcommittees ¹¹³.

McNeely’s legislative activity includes sponsoring bills on a range of issues such as entry fees for interscholastic sports (HB 2), “Sam’s Law” (HB 4), the NC Constitutional Carry Act (HB 5), and various measures related to firearms, veterans’ benefits, and election day holidays ¹². He has been identified as a Deputy Majority Whip (2023) and co‑chair of the Agriculture Awareness Study Commission ¹⁵.

Outside the legislature, McNeely is active in his community as an elder and congregational chairman at New Sterling ARP Church, a Rotary Club member, and a scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America ¹⁴. He is married, resides in Statesville, and identifies as Christian ¹⁵.
