{"biography":"Jeffrey C. McNeely is the incumbent Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for District 84 and is seeking re\u2011election in the November\u202f3,\u202f2026 general election for that seat\u202f[1][13]. The North Carolina House is the lower chamber of the state legislature, with members serving two\u2011year terms. \n\nMcNeely was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on June\u202f12,\u202f1964, and earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in agricultural economics from North Carolina State University in 1986\u202f[13][14]. He graduated from West Iredell High School in 1982\u202f[14]. \n\nBefore entering state politics, McNeely inherited and has operated his family\u2019s feed\u2011milling business, G&M Milling Company, since 1986, making him a small\u2011business owner\u202f[1][15]. He also served 16 years on the Iredell County Planning Board and held a seat as a county commissioner\u202f[14][13]. \n\nMcNeely was appointed to the North Carolina House on July\u202f5,\u202f2019, to fill the vacancy left by Rep.\u202fRena Turner\u202f[13][1]. Since then he has been re\u2011elected in 2020, 2022, and 2024, most recently winning 68.2% of the vote in the 2024 general election\u202f[1][13]. In the 2024 race he defeated Democratic challenger Chris\u202fGilbert and independent write\u2011in Lisa\u202fMozer\u202f[1]. \n\nDuring his legislative tenure McNeely has held several leadership positions. He currently chairs the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations \u2013 Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources Committee, and the Environment Committee\u202f[1][13]. In prior sessions he also chaired the Agriculture Committee and served on Education \u2013 K\u201112, Judiciary IV, and other appropriations subcommittees\u202f[1][13]. \n\nMcNeely\u2019s legislative activity includes sponsoring bills on a range of issues such as entry fees for interscholastic sports (HB\u202f2), \u201cSam\u2019s Law\u201d (HB\u202f4), the NC Constitutional Carry Act (HB\u202f5), and various measures related to firearms, veterans\u2019 benefits, and election day holidays\u202f[12]. He has been identified as a Deputy Majority Whip (2023) and co\u2011chair of the Agriculture Awareness Study Commission\u202f[15]. \n\nOutside the legislature, McNeely is active in his community as an elder and congregational chairman at New Sterling ARP Church, a Rotary Club member, and a scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America\u202f[14].
