Kyah Creekmore is a Democratic candidate who ran in the 2026 primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District, which covers the Greensboro area and portions of western North Carolina. He lost the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary to Chuck Hubbard.
Creekmore ran as a democratic socialist and affiliated with Democratic Socialists of America Winston-Salem. His platform centered on Medicare for All, climate justice, gun reform, affordable housing, and fully funded public schools, including increases to teacher pay. He proposed setting up a "people's assembly" to allow constituents direct access to him and his staff.
Background and education
Creekmore was born in Lakeland, Florida, and grew up in poverty, moving frequently while his single mother worked multiple jobs. He moved to Charlotte in 2018 and later relocated to Greensboro to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial and systems engineering in 2025.
Career
Prior to his congressional campaign, Creekmore worked in customer service, including at Target. He had no prior experience in formal politics before running for Congress.
