LaTonia Brown represents District 8 on the Montgomery County Commission, having been appointed to the seat in March 2025 to complete the unexpired term of Tangi Smith, who resigned to focus on family and health1. Brown is now seeking a full term in the August 6, 2026 general election. On her appointment, Brown said: "For me, public service is not just a title — it's a calling. It's a commitment to standing in the gap and being the voice of the unheard."1
Background and education
Brown is a U.S. Army veteran with more than a decade of military service, including work as an OH-58D aircraft repairer and as an orderly room clerk at Fort Campbell1.
Career
Beyond her military service, Brown has volunteered extensively in Montgomery County, including coaching baseball and softball through the City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department1.
Office history
Brown was selected for the District 8 commission seat by a vote of the full Montgomery County Commission, receiving 11 votes against three other applicants — former Commissioner Ronald Sokol (6 votes), Brandon Lee Kling (3 votes), and David Forbes (1 vote)1.
