Current office and 2026 campaign
Toby Andrea Hedgepeth (Democrat) ran for an at-large seat on the Guilford County, NC Board of Commissioners in the 2026 Democratic primary, her first campaign for elected office.
She campaigned on property tax reform, fully funded public schools, equitable housing, and community investment.
Background and education
A Guilford County native, Hedgepeth graduated from Dudley High School. She holds a bachelor's degree from Strayer University (2005), a graduate degree from Villanova University (2015), and a second graduate degree from the Chicago Theological Seminary (2023). She is currently pursuing a doctorate at Duke Divinity School.
Career
Hedgepeth has two decades of experience in higher education administration and currently serves as a divisional human resources director at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, serving as associate pastor at Union Chapel United Church of Christ in Burlington.
Hedgepeth serves on the board of A Simple Gesture, a Guilford County hunger-relief nonprofit, and is a leader with Public School Strong NC.
Family
Lives in Whitsett, NC, with her husband and two sons.
