Satana Deberry is the incumbent Democratic District Attorney for North Carolina's 16th Prosecutorial District, which covers Durham County, a position she has held since 2019 1. She defeated Jonathan Wilson in the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary and is on the November 3, 2026 general-election ballot; her current term runs through December 31, 2026 1. Background and education

Deberry graduated from Princeton University with a degree in sociology in 1991, and later earned a law degree and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University 1.

Career

Before her election as District Attorney, Deberry worked as a defense attorney, as general counsel to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and as executive director of the North Carolina Housing Coalition, a nonprofit 1.

Office history

Deberry was first elected Durham County District Attorney in November 2018, after defeating incumbent Roger Echols and Daniel Meier in the May 2018 Democratic primary; there was no Republican candidate in that race 1. She was re-elected without opposition in November 2022 1.
