Louis B. Meyer III is a District Court Judge for Judicial District 10E, Seat 2, serving Wake County, North Carolina. He was appointed to the court by Governor Bev Perdue in 2012, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Kristin Ruth. He has been re-elected to the seat, most recently in November 2022.
Background and education
Meyer was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and raised in Wilson, North Carolina. He earned his bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University in 1980 and his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1983.
Career
After law school, Meyer practiced civil and commercial law in Wake County for twenty-seven years with the firm Poyner Spruill LLP. He was appointed to the District Court bench in 2012.
Family
His father, the Honorable Louis B. Meyer, served as an Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. His wife, Staci Meyer, earned degrees from Clemson University and North Carolina Central University's School of Law.
