James Washburn is one of two Weakley County commissioners representing District 9 and is a candidate on the August 6, 2026 county general ballot 1.
Washburn was born and raised in Dresden and graduated from Dresden High School in 2008 1. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps infantry from 2009 to 2013, completing two combat deployments to Afghanistan and earning the Purple Heart and Combat Action Ribbon along with two certificates of commendation 1. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Louisville and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Memphis 1.
Washburn works as an assistant district attorney general for Tennessee's 27th Judicial District 1.
Washburn serves on the commission's Public Safety Committee and has previously served on the Nursing Home Board, the Ethics Committee and the Beer Board 1.
Washburn lives in Dresden with his wife, Audrea, and their son, J. Edgar Washburn 1. He is a deacon at Dresden First Baptist Church and is active in the Dresden Rotary Club and Elks Lodge 1.
