{"biography":"Jill Mcalister\u202fTipton is the Republican candidate for Mayor of Lincolnton, North Carolina, appearing on the March\u202f3,\u202f2026 primary ballot\u202f[17].  She is a lifelong Lincolnton resident and a former city\u2011council member for Ward\u202f3, having been elected to the Lincolnton City Council in the November\u202f2022 general election\u202f[1][17].\n\nBorn to the late Bill and Virginia McAlister, Tipton graduated from Lincolnton High School, earned a B.A. in English from Campbell University, and completed a master\u2019s degree in Reading at Appalachian State University\u202f[18].  She spent 31\u202fyears as a teacher with Lincoln County Schools and now works as a substitute special\u2011needs teacher while also serving as an Educational Tour Director for Group Travel in Hickory, NC\u202f[18].\n\nTipton\u2019s public service extends beyond the classroom.  She has volunteered for more than a decade with Hope for Haiti Children\u2019s Center, participates in her local Freedom Church, and delivers meals for Christian Ministries.  In recognition of her community contributions, she was named Lincoln County Woman of the Year in 2017\u202f[19].\n\nIn local government, Tipton represented Ward\u202f3 on the Lincolnton City Council, where she focused on issues affecting families and education.
