{"biography":"Ben Thomas Moss\u202fJr. is the incumbent Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for District\u202f52 and is on the ballot for re\u2011election in the November\u202f3,\u202f2026 general election.  Members of the North Carolina House serve two\u2011year terms, must be at least 21 years old, be qualified voters, and have resided in the district for one year prior to election; there are no term limits\u30102\u2020L1-L5\u3011.\n\nMoss was born in Rockingham, North\u202fCarolina and graduated from Richmond Senior High School.  He earned a degree from Clayton State University and works as a railroad engineer for CSX\u202fRailroad\u30109\u2020L31-L38\u3011.  Before entering state government he served on the Richmond County Board of Commissioners from 2010 to 2020\u30109\u2020L41-L44\u3011.\n\nHe first won a seat in the state House in the 2020 election, assuming office on\u202fJanuary\u202f1,\u202f2021 and representing the 66th district until redistricting moved him to the 52nd district beginning in 2023\u30109\u2020L9-L13\u3011\u30101\u2020L1-L4\u3011.  He was re\u2011elected in 2022 and again in 2024, defeating Democratic challenger Jimmy\u202fSelf with 61.1% of the vote\u30101\u2020L31-L35\u3011\u30104\u2020L1-L4\u3011.  The 2026 Republican primary was cancelled, so he advanced automatically to the general ballot\u30101\u2020L24-L28\u3011.\n\nIn the legislature Moss has held several leadership positions.  During the 2023\u20112024 session he served as Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee and Chair of the Wildlife Resources Committee, and he sits on Appropriations, Appropriations\u2011Transportation, Commerce, Local Government, and Local Government\u2011Land Use, Planning and Development committees\u30101\u2020L12-L20\u3011.  In the 2021\u20112022 session he was Vice Chair of both the Transportation and Local Government committees\u30101\u2020L21-L24\u3011.\n\nMoss has sponsored a range of bills, including the NC Constitutional Carry Act (HB\u202f5), a Firearm Discharge/Preempt Local Ordinance (HB\u202f9), and the Back\u2011the\u2011Blue Pay Act (HB\u202f42) among others\u30107\u2020L1-L30\u3011.  His work on transportation and wildlife issues reflects his engineering background and his district\u2019s rural interests.\n\nMoss\u2019s official legislative office is located at 300\u202fN.
