{"biography":"Incumbent Republican Senator Danny Earl Britt Jr. is seeking re\u2011election to the North Carolina State Senate for District\u202f24 in the November\u202f3,\u202f2026 general election.  He has represented the district since the 2022\u20112023 term, and previously served the 13th District from 2017\u20112023, making him the first Republican to hold the seat since Reconstruction\u202f[6][2].\n\nBorn on July\u202f6,\u202f1979 in Robeson County, North Carolina, Britt earned a Bachelor of Arts from Appalachian State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma (Oklahoma City University School of Law) in 2003\u202f[6][2].  He served in the United States Army (1996\u20112000) and later joined the North Carolina Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by 2022\u202f[6][2].  He is married to Jill Cassady and has two children, residing in Lumberton\u202f[13][19].\n\nBefore entering politics, Britt worked as an attorney in private practice and as an assistant district attorney in the Robeson County District Attorney\u2019s Office, handling prosecutions and civil matters\u202f[2][6]. Notable recent measures include SB\u202f50 (Freedom to Carry\u202fNC) which advanced to the calendar in April\u202f2026\u202f[5]; SB\u202f127 (lowering taxes for Scotland County)\u202f[5]; SB\u202f128 (Heroes Homestead Act)\u202f[5]; and SB\u202f153 (North Carolina Border Protection Act)\u202f[5].  He was a key vote in the 2023 legislative override of Governor Roy Cooper\u2019s veto to enact a near\u2011total abortion ban after the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s overturn of Roe\u202fv.\u202fWade\u202f[16].  His work on criminal\u2011justice and public\u2011safety funding has been highlighted by the NC Chamber as supporting pro\u2011growth and job\u2011creation policies\u202f[17].\n\nAs a state senator, Britt\u2019s duties include drafting legislation, serving on committee leadership, and representing the interests of constituents in Robeson, Hoke, Scotland, and surrounding counties.
