He filed for re-election and ran in the 2026 Republican primary against Monica Davis.\n\n## Background and education\n\nRader earned a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University and a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, passing the North Carolina bar in 1978.\n\n## Career\n\nRader built a career spanning law, Republican Party leadership, and international political consulting. He served for five years as General Counsel of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services under Governor Jim Martin, and separately spent four years as Beaufort County Republican Party chairman, seven years as First Congressional District Republican chairman, and six years as a state Republican Party officer.
