James Pierce Hill Jr., known as Jimmy Hill, is a Superior Court Judge for Judicial District 37, which serves Randolph County, North Carolina. He was elected to the Superior Court bench in November 2018 for an eight-year term ending in 2026, and filed for re-election to NC Superior Court Judge District 37, Seat 1 on December 1, 2025. He is a Republican.
Background and education
Hill earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Wake Forest University in 1979, a master's degree from Appalachian State University in 1984, and his Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1988.
Career
Hill served as a District Court Judge for the former Judicial District 19B, covering Montgomery, Moore, and Randolph counties, from 2005 to 2018. He was originally appointed to the District Court bench by Governor Mike Easley in June 2005. After thirteen years on the district court, he ran for and won election to the Superior Court for District 37 (Randolph County) in 2018, taking office January 1, 2019.
