{"biography":"## Current office and 2026 campaign\nKelly Eugene Hastings (Republican) is a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives representing District 110 (Gaston and Cleveland counties), where he has served continuously since 2011.\n\n## Background and education\nBorn June 16, 1961, in Boone, NC, Hastings earned a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University and a graduate certificate in teaching from UNC-Charlotte.\n\n## Career\nHastings served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Reserve. He later worked as a parole officer, then as a political aide to Lieutenant Governor Jim Gardner during Gardner's 1992 gubernatorial campaign. In 1997, he became a licensed realtor. He was first elected to the NC House in 2010.\n\nHas served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club and the Pregnancy Resource Center; member of Rotary, the Jaycees, the NC Association of REALTORS, multiple chambers of commerce, and the YMCA.\n\n## Family\nMarried to Anika; one daughter, Sophia.
