Current office and 2026 campaign
Jamie Tennille Adams was appointed District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 21 on September 30, 2024, by Governor Roy Cooper, replacing retiring District Attorney Reece Saunders. She was sworn in on October 7, 2024. District 21 covers Anson, Richmond, and Scotland counties. She filed as a Democratic candidate for the 2026 general election on December 1, 2025.
Background and education
Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. She earned her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, graduating cum laude in 2008. She was admitted to the Michigan bar in 2006 and the North Carolina bar in 2008. Her office is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina (Scotland County).
Career
Adams previously served as an assistant district attorney in Prosecutorial Districts 25 and 26. While serving in District 26, which covers Mecklenburg County, she founded the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Prosecution Team, a specialized unit that continued operating after her departure. She later joined District 21 as Chief Assistant District Attorney before her appointment as District Attorney.
